Reinterpreting
Bamileke Art
In the royal courts of the Bamileke people, Ndop cloths are more than textiles, they are archives. An identity woven in indigo and marked with coded symbols. Ndop is a visual language of power, ancestry, and divine order.
Every symbol tells a story.
Squares for community and stability.
Zigzags for life’s journey and spiritual motion.
Grids for structure, order, and royal governance.
These patterns were once worn by kings, dreamt by diviners, and passed on through generations.
In this collection, I reimagine Ndop not on cloth, but with clay and acrylic on wooden canvas, blending ancestral memory with contemporary form.
This is NdopE
NdopE is surrender.
With an E to invoke transformation, change, grace, and freedom.
E for Elohim.
The one true divine source.
The original Creator.
This collection represents a shift from tradition to testimony.
Where culture is not erased, but
redeemed through Christ.
